The vista installation required at least 300 megs of FAT32 formatted hard drive space, so I needed to install Windows XP in order to install Windows Vista. A minor annoyance, but luckily I had the dvd handy.
After briskly installing XP, I popped in my Vista dvd and up comes the screen. It looks much cleaner, and much more intuitive that the XP installation, so I'm glad to see that they have made progress in that at least.
I got an error saying it might have problems with the drivers for my hard drive, but that quickly resolved itself.
I got scared when I noticed in fine print, "Your upgrade may take several hours to complete." but the entire installation only took about 15 minutes to do.
My computer restarted.
The installation continued to install features and updates and then clean up the temporary files. The expanding of the files for windows took another 10 minutes or so, but still felt quick because I was browsing my RSS feeds the whole time.
The computer restarts again to finalize the installation. The boot up screen is real pretty and moves fast yet again.
I'll post tomorrow (or the next day) on usability and versatility of the OS itself.
RATING OF INSTALLATION:
8.0/10
Could have been better, but I still enjoyed the speedy install.
